Panthers Not Taking Anything for Granted After 52-20 Victory

BOSSIER CITY, LA: Parkway High School’s Lady Panther basketball team played their first game at home tonight, and worked through some early struggles to secure a dominant win over Calcasieu Parish’s LaGrange High School.

LaGrange’s Head Basketball Coach, La’Keem Holmes, was able to direct the Lady Gators to an early 15-7 lead, and capitalized on several missed connections by the Lady Panthers. Parkway’s leading scorer from the previous season, Mikaylah Williams, was double-teamed and pressure heavily in the opening period.

“Tonight, we were challenged,” Parkway Girls Basketball Assistant Coach Alice Robinson tells us. “LaGrange is a solid team and will shake some things up.” The second period the Lady Panthers started moving the ball more efficiently, taking the lead and never looking back.

“I’m proud of how the girls battled back and didn’t let up as we took the lead,” Robinson tells us. Parkway junior Chloe Larry was unrestricted in her play in the second half of the game, sinking 19 points with precision. Senior Amoree Williams sunk 9 against an impressive Lady Gators defense, and Mikaylah Williams ended the game in stride with 11 points.

The Lady Panthers appeared determined and confident in the final moments of tonight’s home opener, but Coach Robinson says they aren’t taking anything for granted: “We still have work to do.”
